We decided to try Smokey J's BBQ. It was located just down the street from my old office, but I never managed to stop by. Terri has been craving a pulled pork sandwich for a while. I read online that Smokey J's made a good one. Turns out they don't even have pulled pork. We both tried their chopped beef. It was OK, but nothing spectacular.
The next day we left Austin on our road trip. We spent the night in San Antonio before heading down to Corpus Christi. McBee's BBQ was given an honorable mention in Texas Monthly's Top 50 Texas BBQ Joints article. It seemed like a good place to stop for lunch since Pleasanton was just off the highway. We were very glad to have made the side trip. They had the best BBQ brisket and sauce in our opinion.
New photo albums for both restaurants have been added.
